ROK: DPRK fired unidentified projectiles into East Sea

SEOUL - The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired multiple unidentified projectiles into the East Sea, the Republic of Korea (ROK)'s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Tuesday.

The JCS said in a statement that the projectiles, believed to be short-range cruise missiles, were launched near the DPRK's east coastal city of Munchon towards the eastern waters.

The launches lasted over 40 minutes from about 7:00 am local time. The projectiles traveled some 150 km northeastward, according to Yonhap news agency.

The launch of cruise missiles is not in violation of the UN Security Council resolution.

It marked the DPRK's fifth test-firing of projectiles this year. The latest was conducted on March 29.

ROK's military was closely monitoring additional military moves by the DPRK, while maintaining a firm defense preparedness, the JCS said.
