BEIJING - A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday said Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority has spent the Taiwan people's hard-earned money on buying support from a US think tank, but such efforts are futile.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said all circles in the United States, including think tanks, should push the US government to abide by the three China-US joint communiques and handle the Taiwan question properly, instead of sending wrong signals to the DPP authority and "Taiwan independence" forces.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, also expressed firm opposition to US arms sales to Taiwan

Zhu also expressed firm opposition to US arms sales to Taiwan, noting that DPP's attempts to collude with foreign forces and count on military force to seek "Taiwan independence" will severely undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and bring disaster to the Taiwan people.

Zhu reaffirmed that no space is allowed for separatist activities seeking "Taiwan independence" in any form.

"We remain as firm as a rock in our resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity and will never leave any space for separatist activities seeking 'Taiwan independence' in any form," Zhu said.

The DPP and separatist elements pushing for "Taiwan independence" have colluded with external forces and intensified provocations to seek "Taiwan independence," which is the root cause of the current complex and grave situation across the Taiwan Straits, Zhu noted.
