HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported 95 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, including 41 that were of unknown origin, bringing the city's tally to 7,541.

In a press briefing on Sunday afternoon, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch, said the new cases included 92 local infections and three imported cases.

Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch, said the new cases included 92 local infections and three imported cases

“Forty-one untraceable accounts for a high percentage of the total and I think this is the highest number (of untraceable cases) so far,” Chuang said.

There were also some 70 patients who tested preliminarily positive cases, she added

Chuang said the seven of the new cases were linked to the dancing cluster. The construction site at the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin tunnel also had one new patient, bringing its tally to 11 cases.

Hospital Authority Chief Manager Sara Ho said during briefing that a 42-year-old female patient died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Saturday. She had no pre-existing medical condition.

“The pandemic is very serious,” Ho said. “She did not have any pre-existing conditions when she was alive. Her work location did have confirmed cases. It’s very likely she got the virus from there.”

Ho said the patient developed cough, high temperature, and shortness of breathe on Dec 4. In the early morning of Dec 4, she went to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

“At that time, the patient’s case was very serious with real difficulty breathing. She was undergoing medical care with a ventilator and was sent to intensive care unit,” Ho said.

She urged members of the public to avoid gatherings and get immediate medical attention if feeling unwell. Ho added that 114 COVID-19 patients had died so far in Hong Kong.
