BERLIN - Borussia Monchengladbach head coach Marco Rose will take over at Borussia Dortmund in summer 2021, both Bundesliga clubs confirmed on Monday.
The 44-year-old activated a release clause in his Gladbach contract and will join the BVB for the the 2021/22 season onwards.
"In the past few weeks, we have had many talks with Marco. Unfortunately, he has now decided that he would like to make use of his release clause and to join Borussia Dortmund in the summer," Monchengladbach's sporting director Max Eberl said in an official statement.

Rose had been heavily linked to Dortmund following the departure of former head coach Lucien Favre. The club, however, gave assistant coach Edin Terzic the top job until the end of the current season to allow those responsible more time to find a permanent appointee.

In his first season with Gladbach in 2019, Rose led the club to a top-four finish and guided them to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
