SHANGHAI – Li Yongjia scored a winner as Guangzhou City edged Guangzhou FC 1-0 in the 18th round of the Chinese Super League on Tuesday.
Both Guangzhou teams are currently in the relegation zone, with Guangzhou FC still one place higher than Guangzhou City
Guangzhou City was not awarded a penalty after their striker Song Wenjie was tripped in the box late in the first half, but managed to break the deadlock in the 60th minute when Li dribbled past defenders before smashing in a volley.

After Hao Junmin's corner kick was headed out of the box, Yan Dinghao's volley was denied by Guangzhou City goalkeeper Han Jiaqi in the 78th minute, and Wei Shihao's follow-up shot only flew up high.
"We are very happy to win today, but we had a lot of problems in the game," said Guangzhou City head coach Li Weifeng. "At the beginning, we were too anxious to score. I'm the one to blame because I asked too much from the team, but in the second half, we found our rhythm back."
