The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is set to open at 10 am on Sunday amid global attention to the weeklong meeting — the nation's most important political event this year — during which the Party's road map for the next five years and beyond will be unveiled.
A preparatory meeting for the 20th CPC National Congress was held on Saturday afternoon at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi Jinping presided over the meeting.
A list of 22 members of the delegate credentials committee, a list of 243 members of the presidium of the congress and the agenda of the congress were approved at the meeting.
It was also approved at the meeting that Wang Huning will serve as secretary-general of the congress.

According to the report, a total of 2,296 delegates have been elected from electoral units. After examination, all of the 2,296 Party delegates were eligible for the 20th CPC National Congress.
The report stated that the election of the delegates started in November 2021 with 99.5 percent of the Party members taking part. During the election process, all electoral units listened to suggestions from grassroots organizations as well as Party members.

The delegates are broadly representative of all the Party's members, according to the document.
During the presidium's meeting, 83 specially invited delegates, who will have the same rights as the delegates, were approved. A total of 508 nonvoting participants were also approved at the meeting. It also passed the draft of the electoral measures for the 20th CPC National Congress, which will be further discussed by the delegates.
All is now set for the 20th CPC National Congress, said Sun Yeli, the spokesman for the congress, at a news conference on Saturday.
