Xi holds talks with Vietnam's communist party chief

BEIJING – Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese president, on Monday held talks with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee.

Hu Zhaoming, a spokesman for the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, announced on Tuesday that Trong would pay an official visit to China from Sunday to Wednesday at the invitation of Xi Jinping.

Trong became the first foreign leader to visit China following the conclusion of the 20th CPC National Congress.

On Sunday, Trong sent a congratulatory message to Xi on his election as general secretary of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

In the message, Trong said he looks forward to meeting with Xi again to exchange views on major strategic issues, further advance bilateral political mutual trust and chart the course for the future development of two-way ties.
