China's top procuratorate orders arrests of two ex-govt officials

BEIJING - China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced Wednesday its decision to arrest two former senior government officials for suspected bribe-taking.

The two suspects include Chen Rugui, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, as well as Zhang Wufeng, former director of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.

The SPP said the case involving Chen, also formerly a member of the leading Party members group of the standing committee of the people's congress of Guangdong, in south China, has been investigated by the National Commission of Supervision before being handed over to prosecutors.

The investigation into Zhang's case has also been completed and turned over to prosecutors, it added. 

Further handling of the cases is underway.
