Asian table tennis: China into men's, women's team semifinals

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea - Chinese paddlers sailed into both men's and women's team semifinals with overwhelming wins at the 2023 Asian Table Tennis Championships here on Monday.

After defeating Hong Kong of China 3-0, China's men faced arch-rivals Japan in the quarterfinals. Wang Chuqin earned China's first point by sweeping aside Tomokazu Harimoto 3-0. Fan Zhendong defeated Hiroto Shinozuka 3-0, followed by Ma Long's 3-0 victory over Shunsuke Togami.

China will now face hosts South Korea in the men's team semifinals on Tuesday.

In the women's team quarterfinals, China's Sun Yingsha dispatched Singapore's Zeng Jian 3-0, and Chen Meng and Chen Xingtong won their matches with the same scoreline of 3-0 against Zhou Jingyi and Wong Xin Ru respectively.

China will next meet Japan, who defeated India 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

This year's Asian Championships runs until September 10 with seven gold medals on offer.
