GENEVA - Youth representatives of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China on Friday spoke at the 54th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, introducing the latest situation of Hong Kong's governance after the implementation of the national security law.

They emphasized that the national security law will bring new opportunities to Hong Kong's long-term development.

I am confident that the Hong Kong's tourism industry, with the solid support from our country, will continue to develop steadily, providing more and more job opportunities for young people.

Rosy Yang, a youth representative, told the Council that after Hong Kong returned to China in 1997, measures that could adequately protect Chinese national security were relatively lacking for decades. The national security law introduced in 2020 fills this void.

Yang stressed that the law lays the groundwork for Hong Kong's sustained development.

"Indeed, as countries generally acknowledge, security and development go hand in hand, and it is difficult to have one without the other," Yang noted.

Jason Wong, another Hong Kong representative who has over 20 years of experience in the tourism industry, said at the session that the implementation of the Hong Kong national security law has put an instant end to the chaotic situation and restored the overall security of Hong Kong, which has also brought confidence to tourists, investors, and the business community.
