LONDON -- Chelsea forward Cole Palmer displayed his composure by scoring an injury-time penalty, securing an astonishing 4-4 draw at home against his former club Manchester City on Sunday.

The match at Stamford Bridge lived up to expectations, though the defensive efforts may have left coaches Mauricio Pochettino and Pep Guardiola wanting.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring for City from the penalty spot in the 25th minute after Marc Cucurella brought him down. Chelsea responded swiftly, with Thiago Silva heading in an equalizer four minutes later.

Chelsea then took the lead through Raheem Sterling, who found the net at the far post in the 37th minute. However, City quickly countered, with Manuel Akanji scoring a free header during first-half injury time.

Haaland put City ahead once more in the 47th minute off Julian Alvarez's cross, but Chelsea equalized again as Nicolas Jackson capitalized on a mistake by Ederson in the 67th minute.

Rodri's long-range shot in the 86th minute, which deflected past Robert Sanchez, seemed to be the decider. However, a late turn of events saw Ruben Dias foul Chelsea substitute Armando Broja, setting the stage for Palmer to equalize against the club that transferred him to Chelsea this summer.

Liverpool rebounded from their Europa League defeat in Toulouse with a resounding 3-0 home victory over Brentford, propelling them to second in the table. Mohamed Salah scored on either side of halftime, with Diogo Jota adding the third, although Brentford rued missed chances in the first half.

Aston Villa achieved their 13th consecutive home win with a 3-1 victory over Fulham. An Antonee Robinson own goal and goals from John McGinn and Ollie Watkins put Villa firmly in control, despite Raul Jimenez's 70th-minute consolation for Fulham.

West Ham ended a challenging spell of just one win in six games with a thrilling 3-2 home win against Nottingham Forest. Lucas Paqueta opened the scoring early, but Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga turned the game around. West Ham equalized through Jarrod Bowen, and Tomas Soucek's late header secured the victory.

Sheffield United's recovery continued with a 1-1 draw at Brighton. Simon Adingra's early goal for Brighton was offset by Adam Webster's own goal after Mahmoud Dahoud's red card.

Tottenham missed an opportunity to top the Premier League, losing to Wolverhampton Wanderers following late goals from Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina.

Arsenal overcame Burnley 3-1 at home despite not being at their best. Goals from Leandro Trossard, William Saliba, and Oleksandr Zinchenko, along with Fabio Vieira's red card, marked the game.

Bournemouth escaped the relegation zone with a 2-0 home win against Newcastle United, thanks to Dominic Solanke's second-half brace.

Manchester United secured a 1-0 home victory over Luton Town, with Victor Lindelof scoring the sole goal in a match where Luton rarely posed a threat.

Everton's improvement continued with a 3-2 win at Crystal Palace. Vitalii Mykolenko and Abdoulaye Doucoure scored for Everton, with Idrissa Gueye's late goal sealing the win after Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Edouard scored for Palace.
