HONG KONG – The National Security Department of Hong Kong Police Force on Friday laid a holding charge against a 35-year-old man on one count of committing an act or acts with seditious intent.
The case was set to be mentioned at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts in the afternoon.
An NSD team arrested the man in Sha Tin on Thursday on suspicion of committing an act or acts with seditious intent, in contravention of Sections 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance, the government said in a statement.

A police investigation revealed that the arrested man was suspected of repeatedly publishing posts with seditious intentions on social platforms, with content provoking hatred towards the central authorities and the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Police conducted searches at the arrested man's residence with a court warrant, according to the statement.
Some electronic communication devices used to publish the seditious messages were seized, it added.

Reminding the public that acts committed with seditious intent are serious crimes liable to two years’ imprisonment on a first conviction, police urged them not to violate the law.
