China and Thailand signed an agreement on Sunday exempting each other’s nationals from visa requirements effective on March 1.
The agreement, which is expected to boost people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, was a major outcome of the first meeting of the consultation mechanism between the foreign ministers of China and Thailand held in Bangkok.
“It’s important that people from the two countries have forged closer friendships and stronger bonds, and are now embracing a better life,” said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, at a joint press conference in the Thai capital.
Speaking at the same press conference, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara said the agreement is a symbol of the two countries’ long-lasting friendship, trust and confidence.
