Orchestra in Beijing stages concert to celebrate Spring Festival

Under the baton of conductor Jin Gang, the symphony orchestra of China Conservatory of Music stages a concert marking the Spring Festival in Beijing, Jan 27, 2024. (PROVIDED TO CHINA DAILY)A New Year concert was held at China National Opera House in Beijing on Saturday, celebrating the upcoming Year of the Dragon.

Under the baton of conductor Jin Gang, the symphony orchestra of China Conservatory of Music performed music pieces which are popular among Chinese audiences, such as Overture of Spring Festival, which conveys the jubilant atmosphere of Spring Festival and brings a festive mood to audiences.

Violinist Li Yuhe and guzheng player Cao Zhaozhao performed as soloists.

Musicians of the China Conservatory of Music also performed adaptations of Chinese folk songs and traditional Chinese music.

The concert was brought to an end with the performance of an excerpt of the soundtrack of The Red Detachment of Women, a Chinese film in 1960, which was later adapted into a Chinese ballet production in 1964.
