Olympic champion Qu aims high at China's national games

HOHHOT - Chinese short-track speed skater Qu Chunyu, a winning member of the mixed team relay at the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, hoped to improve her performance in middle-distance events at the upcoming 14th National Winter Games.

Qu suffered hip pain in the past more than half a year and has tried her best to be prepared for the National Games.

"When I was down, I would review my skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics and got motivated," she said on Wednesday. "Each competition is a new start for me."

I will always give my utmost effort to pursue a better performance, not only for the National Winter Games, but also the Winter Olympics and other events in the future.

Qu Chunyu, Chinese short-track speed skater 

With the short-track speed skating events set to kick off on Thursday, two days before the opening ceremony of the Games, Qu, representing team Tianjin, will participate in the women's 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m relay and the mixed team relay.

"This is my third time to compete in the National Games. I won the women's youth group 500m title in the last edition eight years ago. I used to concentrate on the 500m, but this time, I hope to make breakthroughs in the middle distance," said the 27-year-old.

Qu added, "I will always give my utmost effort to pursue a better performance, not only for the National Winter Games, but also the Winter Olympics and other events in the future."
