HONG KONG – Robin's Nest Country Park, a new natural attraction in Hong Kong’s Sha Tau Kok, officially commenced on Friday, marking the 25th country park established in the city rich with green landscapes.
The 530-hectare-large attraction, located in the northeastern New Territories, was designated as a country park last November by the government. It is home to a variety of natural habitats, such as woodland, shrubland, and upland grassland, where many animal species of high conservation value are often spotted.
Lying on mountain ridges stretching from the mainland city’s Wutong Mountain Scenic Area to the north and Hong Kong’s Pat Sin Leng Country Park to the south, the country park serves as a cross-boundary ecological corridor between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, said a spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.

“The undulating mountain ridges and intertwining natural streams at Robin's Nest provide a variety of habitats for wild animals and plants.”

A mining site-turned-museum inside the park is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. “Revitalization works of Lin Ma Hang Lead Mine is underway, aiming to turn the site to an open museum showcasing the mining history and bat ecology to members of the public,” the spokesman said.

The RNCP has so far opened two hiking trails, namely Robin's Nest Country Trail and Lin Ma Hang Country Trail, whose entrances are located at Shan Tsui of Sha Ta Kok and Lin Ma Hang Village, respectively.
It normally takes four to five hours to finish walking the two country trails.

The department reminded the public to consider their physical strength, hiking experience and weather situation in planning a hike at the country park as it is remotely located with a rugged landscape.
