KYIV / MOSCOW - At least five people were killed and 26 others wounded in a wave of Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine on Friday morning, the National Police said in a statement.

Three people were killed and 15 others were injured in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, where missiles hit Ukraine's largest hydroelectric station, DniproHes, local authorities said.

In the western Khmelnytsky region, two people were killed and eight injured. The power supplies in the region have also been disrupted in the wake of the attack.

The air strike, which was described by Ukrainian authorities as the largest to date attack on the country's energy infrastructure, damaged more than 100 buildings and energy facilities.
49 retaliatory attacks on Ukraine
The Russian military has carried out 49 retaliatory strikes with high-precision weapons from March 16-22 in response to Ukrainian attacks, the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday.
The strikes are in response to the Ukraine shelling of Russian territory and attempts to break through and capture Russian border settlements, the ministry said in a statement.

As a result of the strikes, decision-making centers of the Ukrainian armed forces, airfield infrastructure facilities, workshops for the repair of weapons and military equipment, storage warehouses for UAVs and unmanned boats, logistics bases, as well as temporary deployment points for special operations forces and foreign mercenaries were hit, the ministry added.
