A fellowship meeting was held on Tuesday in Hong Kong to celebrate the centennial of the Huangpu Military Academy, bringing together descendants of its members.

The event was organized by the Hong Kong Association of Descendants of Huangpu Military Academy to nurture unwavering patriotism and love for the nation and the Special Administrative Region, and to safeguard the steadfast implementation of "one country, two systems".

The Huangpu Military Academy was founded in 1924 by revolutionary leader Sun Yat-sen, who is regarded as the father of modern China, with the assistance of the Communist Party of China and the Communist International. Hong Kong, being the birthplace of Sun's revolutionary ideas, holds a special historical significance in commemorating the academy's 100th anniversary, as highlighted by the event organizer.

As a pioneer in implementing "one country, two systems", Hong Kong can contribute its wisdom to unite compatriots across the Taiwan Strait, advance the development of cross-Strait relations, and promote peaceful rejuvenation, said Lam Chaiping, chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Descendants of Huangpu Military Academy.

Hong Kong's role as a link in cross-Strait relations is becoming increasingly prominent, Lam emphasized in an inclusive interview with China Daily.

When asked about the new Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, Lam said that passing Article 23 legislation is a matter of common aspiration and carries great importance. He emphasized the significance of having a national security law in Hong Kong from legal and historical perspectives.

Lam also said that a series of activities have been planned to commemorate the centennial further. Several days later, the association will organize a field trip to Huangpu, allowing Hong Kong youths to visit the historical site and deepen their connection with the academy's legacy.

The association will also collaborate with The University of Hong Kong to curate a photo exhibition, which will allow students to reflect on the academy's history and importance to the nation.
