Chinese mainland warns against Taiwan military's provocations
By Xinhua

BEIJING - A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday said the mainland is closely following Taiwan military's movements in Kinmen.

Any provocative move the Taiwan military takes is doomed to fail, said Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

Chen made the comments in response to a media query concerning Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' announcement of its planned Kinmen live ammunition firing in April.

Chen Binhua said the Taiwan side needs to return to the political foundation defined by the 1992 Consensus if it really intends to resume dialogue across the Strait

Whether it is "routine" training or "targeted" provocation, the DPP authorities know better than anyone else, said Chen.

Compatriots in Kinmen have experienced the transformation between peace and war and have a growing desire for peace. They have made the right choice between "firing guns" and "building bridges", said Chen.

Return to 1992 Consensus

The Taiwan side needs to return to the political foundation defined by the 1992 Consensus if it really intends to resume dialogue across the Strait, Chen said.

Merely talking about cross-Strait dialogue without relevant actions is unconvincing and devoid of sincerity, the spokesperson said.

Chen made the remarks in response to a media query about a public figure in Taiwan who claimed that the mainland had always responded Taiwan's wish to restore cross-Strait dialogue with "the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus".
