HK exports volume up 7.1% in Q1

HONG KONG – The volume of Hong Kong’s total goods exports rose by 7.1 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, according to official data released on Thursday.

The volume of goods imports during the first three months of the year also increased 3.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023, data from the Census and Statistics Department showed.

Comparing the first quarter of 2024 with the fourth quarter of 2023 on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods increased by 4.1 percent, while the volume of imports of goods decreased by 1.5 percent

The prices of total exports of goods and imports of goods also rose by 4.5 percent and 4.6 percent respectively, the C&SD said.

Comparing the first quarter of 2024 with the fourth quarter of 2023 on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods increased by 4.1 percent, while the volume of imports of goods decreased by 1.5 percent, it added.

In March, the volume of Hong Kong's total exports of goods and imports of goods went up by 0.5 percent and 1.0 percent respectively over the same period in 2023.

On the other hand, the prices of total exports of goods and imports of goods increased by 4.1 percent and 4.5 percent respectively during the same period.

The total volume also increased year-on-year for exports going to Vietnam (33.6 percent) and the Chinese mainland (7.1 percent) while import prices also rose for Singapore (8.8 percent), South Korea (7.4 percent), the mainland (5.4 percent), and Taiwan region (5 percent).
