GAZA / JERUSALEM / NICOSIA - At least 20 people were killed and several others injured on Saturday night by an Israeli airstrike targeting the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported.
A number of wounded Palestinians, including children, were rescued from under the rubble, with search and rescue work underway, it said.
The Israeli army has repeatedly struck the Nuseirat camp. In a recent attack in mid-May, Israeli warplanes bombed a residential building owned by the Karaja family in the south of the camp, killing at least 40 people.

The statement noted that some victims remained under the rubble amid heavy bombardment and a lack of rescue crews.
Also on Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces said it has killed more than 130 militants in targeted operations in eastern Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
As part of the operations, the Givati infantry brigade killed more than 80 militants in the area, and located dozens of rifles, grenades, and ammunition, according to an IDF statement.
Additionally, Givati's reconnaissance unit uncovered significant underground tunnel infrastructure in the area, it said.
Simultaneously, the 401st armored brigade killed about 50 militants in raids on Hamas infrastructure and buildings from which gunfire was shot at IDF troops, and located dozens of tunnel shafts and many anti-aircraft guns.
The Israeli army continued its attack on Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, urging residents in the area to evacuate their homes and head to shelters in western Gaza City
"So far, hundreds of terrorist infrastructure sites have been destroyed by the 401st Brigade, including weapons production facilities and ready-to-use launch sites," the IDF said.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army continued its attack on Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, urging residents in the area to evacuate their homes and head to shelters in western Gaza City.
Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement on social media platform X that the army eliminated "a sabotage cell in Jabalia after clashes with its members inside buildings, where the saboteurs fled to the roof and opened fire on the army forces."
Adraee added that the troops surrounded the buildings and eliminated the group after an exchange of fire, noting that the army did not suffer any losses during the clashes.
The spokesperson did not provide further details about the identity of the "saboteurs."
Earlier in the day, Palestinian medical sources said at least 28 people, including women and children, were killed in Israeli continuous raids on the Jabalia refugee camp.
Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that Israeli warplanes targeted several residential houses and a shelter center for displaced people in the camp with missiles.
The raids caused large explosions in the camp, which had been witnessing a military operation for several days.

Adraee also announced on Saturday the recovery of another Israeli hostage's body from the Gaza Strip, the fourth within 24 hours.
He said that "the body of Israeli abductee Ron Benjamin was retrieved in a joint special operation by the army and the Shin Bet security agency."
The army information indicated that Ron Benjamin was killed during the Hamas attack on Oct 7 last year and his body was taken to Gaza by Hamas militants, Adraee said.
He added that Benjamin's body was retrieved along with the bodies of three others, who were identified as Shani Louk, Amit Buskila, and Itzik Gelenter on Friday.
According to the statement, the body was then transported to a medical institute for diagnostic procedures, after which, the army informed the abductee's family of the matter.

Israel estimated that there were at least 129 Israeli hostages still held in Gaza, some of whom, according to Hamas, were dead.

Meanwhile, Cyprus aims at having a continuous flow of humanitarian aid from the Larnaca port to the Gaza Strip, Foreign Ministry spokesman Theodoros Gotsis said on Saturday.
"The plans under the Amalthea project provide for the delivery of 2,000 tons of humanitarian aid each week," Gotsis said.
However, the spokesman stressed that the project is only supplementary to the aid which should be mainly transferred by land. He also said that Cyprus' government aims at having the aid checked in time so that it can reach the Palestinians as early as possible.
