High-speed rail services between the Hong Kong Special administrative Region and the Chinese mainland will be increased from the middle of next month in a move to promote the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and boost cross-boundary exchanges.

A new route will be launched between Hong Kong and Zhangjiajie, a renowned tourist destination in Hunan province, from June 15, according to Guangzhou Railway. A one-way second-class ticket will cost 769 yuan ($106).

With a pair of trains running between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Zhangjiajie West Station every day, the route will feature six stops—  Shaoyang, Huaihua South, Dongkou, Fenghuanggucheng, Jishou East, and Zhangjiajie West.

Hong Kong's rail operator MTR said the new route will complement the existing route between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Changsha South Station, injecting fresh vitality for economic and tourism development of Hong Kong and Hunan province

The new addition will increase the number of direct mainland destinations from Hong Kong to 78, the city’s rail operator MTR said.
