More than 10 million travelers have crossed the boundary at Liantang Port this year as of June 1, five months ahead of the time when the 10-million mark was passed last year.
As the newest land crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Liantang Port — whose counterpart is Heung Yuen Wai, roughly halfway between Lo Wu and Sha Tau Kok — plays an important role in promoting economic development and people-to-people exchanges between Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Chinese mainland.
Hong Kong residents made 7.73 million cross-border travels via the port this year, accounting for 77 percent of the total number of passenger crossings and representing a surge of 273 percent year-on-year

An average of 65,000 passengers a day crossed the border via Liantang Port this year, growing 63 percent from the average daily number last year.

Liantang Port has introduced four new measures this year to facilitate border crossings. For example, inspection channels are set up separately for normal passengers and those in a hurry. Also, the port has upgraded inspection facilities to enhance efficiency by checking with handheld mobile devices.
