WASHINGTON - Jrue Holiday scored 26 points as the Boston Celtics secured their first two home victories in the NBA Finals, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 105-98 in Game 2 on Sunday night.
Holiday led the Celtics with a team-high 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 41 minutes on the court. Jayson Tatum nearly achieved a triple-double with 18 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds, while Jaylen Brown contributed 21 points and seven assists.
Despite Luka Doncic making Mavericks' franchise history with a triple-double of 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, he appeared to be the lone offensive force as his backcourt partner Kyrie Irving managed only 16 points on seven-of-18 shooting.

Both teams struggled from behind the arc, with Dallas converting just six of 26 attempts, while Boston wasn't much better, hitting 10 of 39. The game remained tight by halftime.
The passionate home crowd at TD Garden fueled Holiday and Brown as they dismantled the Mavericks' defense in the third quarter, initiating a 10-0 run. Dante Exum finally broke Dallas' drought with a 3-pointer from the bench.
Boston's effective ball rotation compensated for their poor 3-point shooting. The Celtics tallied 29 assists and only 10 turnovers, compared to the Mavericks' 21 assists and 15 turnovers. This came after Brown emphasized teamwork in response to Dallas head coach Jason Kidd's comment on focusing on the "best player".

Although Boston leads the Finals 2-0, the outcome of Wednesday's Game 3 remains uncertain. The Celtics suffered a setback when big man Kristaps Porzingis exited Game 2 with a leg injury, sustained while contesting a PJ Washington drive to the hoop. Before his departure, Porzingis had contributed 12 points, four rebounds, and two blocks in 23 minutes.
