The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will publish its hydrogen energy development strategy on Monday and plans to roll out street-cleaning vehicles powered by the clean energy source this year, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu revealed on Thursday.

Lee said the comprehensive strategy for boosting Hong Kong’s hydrogen economy ties in with the national blueprint for improving productivity, a key theme of the Chief Executive’s Interactive Exchange Question and Answer Session at the Legislative Council.

According to media reports, the HKSAR government plans to introduce three hydrogen-powered street-cleaning vehicles, of the type currently used on the Chinese mainland. The vehicles are expected to be trialed in the New Territories

In addition to piloting the street-washing vehicles, the HKSAR government will promote the development of hydrogen-powered garbage trucks, trams, refueling stations, power generation facilities, and various other infrastructure and equipment.
