Shenzhen University to enroll undergraduates studying in HK

Shenzhen University’s Hong Kong College will enroll the first group of undergraduate students from Hong Kong this year, marking a milestone in cross-boundary education collaboration between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

The students will major in internet and new media studies. Specific admission plans will be subject to application and assessment.

The Hong Kong College was set up with the aim of promoting two-way educational integration between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and providing more diversified options for young Hong Kong people to receive high-quality higher education locally, the university said

Online registration has started and will last until July 20.

According to the university, the students will study in Hong Kong, with individual courses being completed at the university headquarters in Shenzhen’s Nanshan district. Those who plan to study at the university headquarters during the undergraduate period can pursue their study there for one semester or one academic year after getting approval from the university.

The new enrollment comes as cross-boundary education collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is gathering steam.

A number of Hong Kong universities have set up campuses in mainland cities of the GBA, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen campus, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Guangzhou campus, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Foshan campus.

In the latest development, the City University of Hong Kong Dongguan campus announced on Sunday that it will start enrolling undergraduate students from this year. It plans to admit 125 undergraduates on a national scale, of whom 43 will be from Guangdong province.

The initial enrollment of Hong Kong College emphasizes such collaboration, with Shenzhen University being the first mainland university to establish a campus in Hong Kong.
