China willing to boost ASEAN alignment, build community

BEIJING - China is willing to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with ASEAN, firmly support the building of the ASEAN Community, and uphold ASEAN's central position in the regional structure, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks in his congratulatory letter to the China-ASEAN Future Relations Forum, which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.

China is building a great country and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization, while the ASEAN Community building is entering a new stage, Wang noted

In 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping and leaders of ASEAN countries jointly attended the Special Summit to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations, announcing the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership. This partnership currently enjoys robust development momentum and has achieved fruitful results in building a peaceful, prosperous, beautiful, and friendly common homeland, Wang said.

China and ASEAN have been each other's largest trading partners for four consecutive years and have seen the realization of a series of iconic high-quality projects under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, along with the rapid recovery of people-to-people and cultural exchanges, bringing tangible benefits to over 2 billion people on both sides, said Wang.

China and ASEAN share similar paths of development and modernized concepts, said Wang, adding that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which align closely with the Ten Principles of Bandung Conference and the spirit of the ASEAN Charter.

China is building a great country and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization, while the ASEAN Community building is entering a new stage, Wang noted.

As friendly neighbors and reliable long-term comprehensive strategic partners, China stands ready to work together with ASEAN to achieve common development, regional peace, stability, and prosperity, he said.

Wang also expressed his hope that both sides would make good use of the forum to provide advices for the future development of China-ASEAN relations, promote the construction of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, and actively implement the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, so as to inject new impetus into promoting an equitable, orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization.
