Fire extinguished at stock exchange building in Pakistan's Karachi

ISLAMABAD - A fire that erupted during early trading hours at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in the country's southern port city of Karachi on Monday has been extinguished, police said.

The fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the building has been completely extinguished, and the cooling process is underway, police and firefighters told media.

The fire erupted at around 08:00 am local time (0300 GMT), resulting in some material loss, but no loss of life has been reported

Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, police added.

In a statement, Jawad Hashmi, general manager and chief market operations officer of the PSX, said that trading in all securities has been temporarily suspended from 10:25 am local time (0525 GMT) to 11:25 am local time (0625 GMT).
