TEHRAN - Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed his country's commitment to continue its support for the resistance front, especially the Palestinian people, the official news agency IRNA reported on Thursday.
He made the remarks in a phone call with senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya on Wednesday night while extending condolences over the death of Ismail Haniyeh, the chief of Hamas's politburo, in an alleged Israeli attack in the Iranian capital earlier in the day, the report said.

Pezeshkian said that Iran would not give up on supporting the "oppressed" Palestinian people and would continue backing the resistance front and especially Palestinians with greater determination.
Pezeshkian noted that Haniyeh was the official guest of Iran's president and government, which doubled the "pain of his martyrdom for us".

Al-Hayya, for his part, described Iran as the true and constant supporter of the resistance front and Palestinians.
Haniyeh, who had been invited to attend Pezeshkian's swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, was killed along with his bodyguard early Wednesday when their residence in Tehran was hit, according to Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, which said Israel had carried out the "terrorist attack" and vowed "a harsh and painful response".

In an interview with state-run IRIB TV on Thursday, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Baqeri said that avenging the assassination of Haniyeh will be certain.
"The way we and the resistance axis would take revenge for Martyr Haniyeh's blood is under consideration and evaluation and it will definitely take place," said the Iranian general.
