Defense Minister Pal Jonson described the DCA as "a cornerstone for defense in Northern Europe," adding that it will create conditions for American military support and presence.

In December 2023, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark signed bilateral DCAs with the US. These agreements will come into force once ratified by the parliament of each country.
The Swedish parliament approved the controversial agreement in June, despite opposition from the Left Party and the Green Party, who criticized its lack of provisions regarding nuclear weapons, according to Swedish Television.
