VIENTIANE — The 10th ASEAN Senior Law Officials' Meeting Working Group on the ASEAN Extradition Treaty has begun its work of consultation and discussion in the Lao capital Vientiane.
The meeting, from Monday to Wednesday, was chaired by Vice-President of the Office of the Supreme People's Prosecutor of Laos Khamphet Somvolachit, Lao national Television reported on Tuesday.

During the meeting, participants will exchange views on a draft ASEAN Extradition Treaty to ensure its completeness. The goal is to achieve a unified treaty that can be presented to the ASEAN heads of state and government for endorsement, signing, ratification, and implementation.
Speaking at the meeting, Khamphet urged an active engagement by participants in the draft discussions.
"The draft treaty, when signed, promulgated and made effective, will become a legal instrument in cooperation within ASEAN regarding the extradition of criminals, bringing perpetrators to punishment, combating transnational crimes, making the society of Laos and ASEAN peaceful and orderly, and progressing without stopping," said Khamphet.

ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
