The Hong Kong Observatory said it will consider raising the typhoon signal No 1 over the city on Tuesday afternoon as Tropical Cyclone Yagi edges closer to the city.
In a weather advisory around noon on Monday, the observatory said Yagi moved towards the northern part of Luzon and intensified and, based on its present forecast track, it will enter within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong tomorrow.
“The Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal, No 1, between tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night,” the HKO said.

The observatory said there was a higher chance that Yagi will move towards the vicinity of the western part of Guangdong and Hainan Island and further intensify.
As of noon Monday, Yagi was centered about 210 kilometers northeast of Manila. It was forecast to move north-northwest at about 18 kilometers per hour towards the vicinity of the northern part of Luzon.
Whether a typhoon signal warning higher than T1 will be issued depends on the intensity and circulation size of Yagi and its distance from territory, the observatory said.
