Shenzhen's social media is buzzing with photos of giants following the unveiling of the art-cum-retail exhibition HAUS NOWHERE at the MixC mall in Nanshan district last week.
The third installment of South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster's HAUS NOWHERE series, this exhibition is themed around a fictional tale exploring the 10,000-year relationship between giants, insects, and animals. "HAUS NOWHERE SHENZHEN is more than just a shopping destination; it is a vast universe with its own narrative. Visitors are invited to step into the tale, becoming part of the story and engaging both their emotions and creativity," states the official website of Gentle Monster.
With umbrellas and portable fans in their hands, people are seen queuing outside the mall despite the stifling summer heat, reports Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.
Attendees are praising the extraordinary design, lifelike skin texture, and hair of the giants, as well as the overall science fiction ambiance.
A retail space designer surnamed Wang said that she waited over an hour in line. "The massive installation and unique design stir up curiosity among visitors, encouraging them to spend more time here," she said. "It is a very bold attempt."
Xu, another visitor who traveled from Panyu, Guangdong, said: "Seeing it in person is truly shocking. Shenzhen lives up to its reputation as the trendsetter of the Greater Bay Area.”
Though visitors are clearly impressed by the novelty of the show, it remains uncertain whether this is successful retail project. Most people are interested only in taking photos of the art installations and few explore the fashion products on display, reports Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.
