Migrant boat sinks off Greek island, 3 dead, 25 missing

ATHENS - Three people died and 25 others are missing after a boat carrying migrants and refugees sank off the Greek island of Samos in the Aegean Sea on Monday, Greek state broadcaster ERT reported.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, though the exact number of people on board remains uncertain. According to sources from the Hellenic Coast Guard, five survivors who were found onshore indicated that approximately 33 people were on the boat.

Greece has been a key entry point for refugees and migrants into Europe since 2015. Over the past nine years, hundreds have died attempting the perilous journey across the Aegean Sea.
