GAZA/RAMALLAH — At least 19 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, while two others were killed by Israeli raids in the northern West Bank, Palestinian sources and authorities said on Tuesday.

An Israeli drone hit a tent for displaced people in the al-Attar area west of Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian security sources told Xinhua. Medical sources said that the airstrike killed six Palestinians including children and women.

In another attack, Israeli aircraft targeted the Shejaiya school east of Gaza City, which houses dozens of displaced families, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.

The Civil Defense Authority said in a brief statement that its team recovered at least seven bodies, and there were also several injuries, all of whom were taken to hospitals.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Tuesday that the Israeli Air Force conducted a precise strike on Hamas militants who were operating inside a command and control center in Gaza City.

The center, which was inside a compound that previously served as the Shejaiya school, was used to plan and execute attacks against IDF troops and Israel, it added.

An Israeli drone set a civilian car on fire in the west of Khan Younis, Palestinian security sources told Xinhua, noting that the air raid killed six Palestinians.

Eyewitnesses told Xinhua that several young men tried to put out the fire using primitive methods and rescue those inside.

The Israeli army has not commented on this incident.

Israel has been launching a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and about 250 taken hostage.

The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has risen to 41,638, Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, two Palestinians were killed by the Israeli army in the Balata refugee camp and the Old City of Nablus, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.

"Diaa Dweikat, 25, died of critical wounds he sustained in the abdomen and thigh in Balata camp," the Ramallah-based ministry said in a press statement.

Later, the ministry reported the death of Abdul Hakim Shahin, 23, caused by Israeli army gunfire in the Old City of Nablus.

Israeli forces stormed Balata camp and the Old City to carry out arrest operations amid gunfire, according to Palestinian security sources.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that it received a report of injuries in the camp and that coordination was underway to reach them.

The statement said that three of its paramedics were injured by live bullets by Israeli soldiers "deliberately, despite prior coordination through the International Committee of the Red Cross while trying to evacuate a number of casualties in Balata camp."

The Israeli army has not commented on these developments yet.

The West Bank has been witnessing escalating tension and armed confrontations in various cities, villages, and camps since the start of the conflict in the Gaza Strip on Oct 7, 2023.

Since then, the Israeli side has killed more than 720 Palestinians by shelling and shooting throughout the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
