The Hong Kong Observatory said Wednesday that it will consider raising typhoon signal No 1 on Friday as Tropical Cyclone Yinxing moved across the northern Philippines.
The HKO said in a weather bulletin that Yinxing was expected to move within 800 kilometers of the city between Thursday night and Friday morning when it barrels westwards across the northern part of the South China Sea.
“Depending on the distance between Yinxing and the Pearl River Estuary, its change in intensity and the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need of issuing the Standby Signal, No 1 later Friday to early Saturday,” the HKO said.
As of noon Wednesday, Yinxing was centered about 550 kilometers northeast of Manila and was forecast to move west-northwest at about 12 kilometers per hour towards the vicinity of Luzon Strait.

The HKO said that there are “uncertainties” in Yinxing’s movement and intensity after it enters the South China Sea due to the northeast monsoon.
Weather in Hong Kong will be fine and dry with slightly cooler mornings in the next few days, with the minimum temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius. It be cloudier with swells over the weekend, the observatory added.
