BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message to Donald Trump on Thursday, congratulating him on his election as the 47th president of the United States and emphasizing his willingness to strengthen dialogue and communication between Beijing and Washington and properly manage their differences.

In the message, Xi pointed out that history has shown how cooperation between China and the US can bring benefits to both sides, while rivalry can harm both nations.

"A China-US relationship with stable, healthy and sustainable development is in line with the common interests of the two countries and the expectations of the international community," he said.

It is hoped that the two sides will uphold the principle of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, strengthen dialogue and communication, properly manage differences and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, he said.
