TEHERAN - Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Monday described the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) last week for Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "insufficient."

He made the remarks in a meeting with members of the Basij voluntary force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps in Teheran, according to a statement published on his website.

"The arrest warrant for Netanyahu is not sufficient. Death sentences should be issued for him and criminal Israeli leaders," the Iranian leader said.

No one considered the Israelis' bombing of houses, hospitals and public gatherings in Gaza and Lebanon as a sign of their victory, Khamenei added, expressing confidence that despite the continuation of its "war crimes" in Gaza and Lebanon, Israel would not be the victorious side.

He stressed that Israel's "crimes" in Gaza and Lebanon would further strengthen the resistance.

The ICC last week issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of committing "crimes against humanity and war crimes" between at least Oct 8, 2023, and May 20, 2024, in Gaza.
