HONG KONG – The new transport chief of Hong Kong on Saturday vowed to ensure that the new Kai Tak Sports Park's transport links are capable of meeting every possible eventuality.
The sports park will host a stress test involving 12,000 people from the Transport and Logistics Bureau and other relevant departments to assess its readiness before it is commissioned to host large events.

Speaking at a media session after attending a radio program, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan, who took office on Thursday, said the tests are intended to ensure that the preparation work at the park is completed.
“We will be participating in it (stress test). Apart from us, the various public transport operators, including MTR, various buses, and also taxis, will also be involved,” she said.
She expressed her hope that through the various stress tests, the relevant departments will step up their mobilization and preparation and prepare themselves better for different scenarios, “such that when the sports park is commissioned, we will have a better and holistic preparation to cater for different scenarios”.

“We will give our best in order to make this a success, and also to give the best service for our locals and also for our visitors,” Chan said, terming it as a very significant milestone in Hong Kong's tourism development.
Occupying 28 hectares of land, the Kai Tak Sports Park is about nine hectares larger than the Victoria Park and will become Hong Kong’s largest sports park after completion, according to the government.
Asked about railway infrastructure, Chan told reporters that her bureau is engaging and planning for a number of major projects. “I think the infrastructure projects did provide a very good opportunity for Hong Kong's local development as well as further development of our economy.”
