Panda-themed carnival, Sino-French cultural encounters in HK, Guangzhou art fair

HONG KONG – The 29th Guangzhou International Art Fair 2024, which begins on Friday in Guangzhou, brings together exquisite artworks from five continents, showcasing the changes and development of the era through the perspective of art.

Themed "Transcendence", the four-day art fair will feature 1,000 art institutions and artists, exhibiting about 20,000 original artworks, covering various forms of art such as traditional painting, sculpture, modern installation art, video art, and digital art.

There will be a special exhibition for artists from overseas and those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It will also showcase artworks of national masters and Lingnan artists.

Panda-themed carnival

The China Tourism Group is hosting a series of outdoor giant panda-themed carnival at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui featuring interactive performance markets, art exhibitions, and panda interaction zones, from Dec 21.

A 10-meter by 10-meter giant panda art installation has been placed Wednesday through on the sea directly facing the piazza.

To be held in three phases, with the second and the third phases expected during next year's Labor Day and Christmas, the carnival has invited experts from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, who will visit local communities to promote knowledge about panda reservation.

Cultural encounters

The Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Palace Museum and the Palace of Versailles will hold an exhibition titled “The Forbidden City and The Palace of Versailles: China-France Cultural Encounters in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries” at the Hong Kong Palace Museum on Dec 18.

Focused on exchanges between China and France in culture, arts, science, and technology during the 17th and 18th centuries, the exhibition will present nearly 150 collections from the Palace Museum and the Palace of Versailles.

Highlights include nine First Grade Cultural Relics and recent collections of the Palace of Versailles, most of which will be on display in Hong Kong for the first time.
