HONG KONG - Three men were killed and four other people injured in a fatal traffic accident early Wednesday in Hong Kong, police said.
The accident involving six vehicles happened in Mong Kok when a taxi collided with a private car on the West Kowloon Highway at around 1:44 am, the Hong Kong Police Force said in a statement.
The private car, driven by a 30-year-old man, was travelling along the third lane of the West Kowloon Highway towards Western Harbour Crossing with four male passengers, aged 19 to 34, on board.
Driving on the second lane of the same highway was a 65-year-old taxi driver who had two passengers—a 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman.
When approaching the segment outside MTR Olympic Station, the taxi reportedly cut the lane and collided with the private car.

Police said the private car then went out of control, rammed into a kerb, and crashed into a moving taxi and three stationary private cars.
Sustaining serious multiple injuries, the private car driver was certified dead at the scene. Two of his passengers aged 33 and 34 were rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital and were later certified dead.
His two other passengers, aged 23 and 19, had back injuries while the two taxi passengers had limb injuries. They were conscious and were brought to different hospitals.

Police added that the taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for inquiries.
