Shenzhen and the Macao Special Administrative Region moved a step closer together on Thursday with the launch of an integrated transport smart card.
The integrated card, jointly launched by Shenzhen Tong and Macau Pass, incorporates the functions of both cities’ cards and can be used in 336 Chinese mainland cities as well as Macao SAR, providing residents and travelers in Shenzhen and Macao with a more convenient, efficient, and cost-effective travel experience.

Users can enjoy discounts of up to 20 percent on public transport in Shenzhen. The card also offers benefits when users take public transport, dine, or shop in Macao.
The card’s launch marks a significant achievement in interconnectivity and integrated innovation between cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and is expected to boost economic and trade exchanges and cultural integration in the region.

In March, Hong Kong SAR’s Octopus unveiled a new card, allowing users to pay for public transport in over 336 mainland cities. The company revealed earlier that the card was most used in Shenzhen, followed by Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
The dual-currency Octopus — China T — Union Card enables users to top up their balance in Hong Kong dollars. Funds stored in the wallet are converted to yuan at current exchange rates when making transactions on the mainland.
