Myanmar's leader warns officials against online gambling, scams

YANGON - Myanmar's State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has warned that strict action will be taken against officials found to be involved in online gambling and online scams, state-run daily The Mirror reported on Tuesday.

During a meeting on Monday, he also said that effective measures will also be taken against those involved in narcotics and other crimes, according to the report.

Illegal online gambling and online scams have caused problems in the country. In response, the government has taken effective measures to address these issues, it said.

The issue has also drawn attention from the international community, leading to increased cooperation between Myanmar and foreign governments to combat these crimes comprehensively, the report said.

Responsible officials at different levels in regions and states and areas are required to address the problem by preventing and cracking down on online gambling and scams and other crimes resolutely without fail, it added.
