BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.42 percent to 3,332.48 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.77 percent lower at 10,626.62 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices was about 1.82 trillion yuan (around $253.74 billion), up from 1.68 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to the film and cinema industries, as well as pork, led the gains, while those in the robot and semiconductor sectors suffered significant losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.71 percent to close at 2,176.16 points on Thursday.
