BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.8 percent to 3,346.04 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.17 percent lower at 10,854.5 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.93 trillion yuan (about $269.1 billion), down from 2.08 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the media and entertainment, printing and packaging, and home appliance sectors suffered major losses, while textile and petroleum shares led the gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.13 percent to close at 2,240.59 points.
