HONG KONG - A spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday expressed strong condemnation and resolute opposition to the US side for slandering Hong Kong's human rights, rule of law, democracy, and freedom.

The spokesperson made the remarks in response to certain members of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, who have vilified the national security law in Hong Kong, supported anti-China and destabilizing elements in Hong Kong, tarnished Hong Kong's international reputation, and grossly interfered in Hong Kong's affairs and China's internal matters.

The spokesperson stated that Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law.

Since the implementation of the national security law in Hong Kong and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, Hong Kong society has become more prosperous and stable, the practice of "one country, two systems" has gained new vitality, and the rights legally enjoyed by residents have been fully protected, the spokesperson added.

At the same time, the business environment in the HKSAR has been continuously consolidated and optimized, and Hong Kong's status as an international financial, shipping, and trade center has been further enhanced, earning widespread praise from the international community, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson pointed out that the rule of law is based on the principle that laws must be followed and violations must be punished. The HKSAR's independent judiciary upholds the rule of law and resolutely cracks down on actions and activities that jeopardize national security. These measures are legally justified, reasonable, and beyond reproach.

The spokesperson emphasized that some US politicians turned a blind eye to the myriad problems within their own country, yet repeatedly used "democracy and freedom" as political tools to meddle in the internal affairs of other nations. Their sinister intentions are clear, and their despicable actions are contemptible.

China will continue to fully and accurately implement the "one country, two systems" policy and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, the spokesperson said, urging the US to genuinely respect the spirit of the rule of law, immediately stop its futile attempts to play the "Hong Kong card" and immediately stop meddling in China's internal affairs.
