Maintaining and enhancing ties with various Hong Kong and Macao sectors, particularly their youngsters, was noted as an important task for the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee (CPPCC), the nation’s top political adviser said on Tuesday.
The 14th CPPCC National Committee — the country’s top political advisory body — opened its third session at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon.
At the meeting, Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a work report on behalf of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee.

Over the past year, the CPPCC National Committee fully leveraged its role as a united-front organization, initiating a series of communicating activities between the Chinese mainland and the two special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macao, Wang said.
For example, the CPPCC National Committee held 75 international seminars in campuses to enhance ties with Hong Kong and Macao youngsters, Wang noted.
The CPPCC National Committee also organized visits to its Hong Kong and Macao members to learn their opinions, while holding meetings to discuss issues that included how to better leverage the roles of Hong Kong and Macao in the country’s efforts to establish a new mechanism for a higher-level open economy, Wang said.
Tan Yueheng, a Hong Kong member of the top political advisory body, said the work report demonstrated that the CPPCC National Committee has attached high importance of communicating with the Hong Kong community.
Tan, who is also a Hong Kong lawmaker, said he will earnestly fulfill his dual responsibilities by helping build a broad consensus in local communities and providing solid advice for the country’s high-quality development.
Lui Kin, another CPPCC National Committee member from Hong Kong, said many proposals from Hong Kong members have positively affected the shaping of policy, which has been a morale booster to him.

A Yuen Long district council member, Lui said he will double down on his efforts to promote the development of two mega projects related to his district — the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone, and the Northern Metropolis.
Macao CPPCC National Committee member Kou Kam-fai said the work report clearly set objectives and key tasks for this year’s work, which he thinks are feasible, practical and meet people’s demand.
Grace Wong Kit-cheng, also a Macao member of the top political advisory body, said she will strive to study the gist of the session, better understand social conditions and public opinion, and do her part to the development of both Macao and the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
