TEHERAN - Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations in New York said on Friday the country has not yet received any letter from US President Donald Trump.
The Iranian diplomatic mission made the remarks on Friday while responding to media's question about Trump's claim to have sent a letter addressed to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei hoping to hold negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.
In an interview with Fox Business Network broadcast Friday, Trump said he wanted to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran, and had sent a letter to the country's leadership.
He expressed hope that Teheran would agree to talk, "because it's going to be a lot better for Iran."

"I think they want to get that letter. The other alternative is we have to do something, because you can't let another nuclear weapon," Trump said.
Iran signed a nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with six world powers in July 2015, accepting restrictions on its nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions.
However, during Trump's first term of office, the United States withdrew from the agreement in May 2018 and reinstated sanctions, prompting Iran to scale back some of its nuclear commitments.

Efforts to revive the JCPOA have not achieved substantial progress. Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that the country would not negotiate with the United States under pressure and sanctions.
