DAMASCUS - Syria's Defense Ministry announced Monday the conclusion of its military operation in the coastal region, stating that security had been restored following recent clashes with remnants of the former regime.

Ministry spokesperson Hassan Abdel Ghani confirmed in a statement that all "strategic objectives" had been achieved, saying government forces had neutralized hostile elements, pushed them away from vital areas, and safeguarded key infrastructure.

Officially declaring the end of the operation, Abdel Ghani said, "Public institutions are now in a position to resume their work and provide essential services, paving the way for life to return to normal and ensuring long-term stability."

He added that security agencies would shift their focus to sustaining stability and preventing future threats.

"New plans have been set to continue combating remnants of the former regime, dismantling any re-emerging criminal networks, and preventing future security threats," the spokesperson stated.

According to the ministry, the military operation was launched in response to coordinated attacks on security forces, which began on Thursday and spilled over into several areas along the coastline, resulting in over 1,000 deaths, including civilians.

On Sunday, Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced the formation of an independent national committee to investigate the recent deadly violence in the coastal region, vowing to hold those responsible accountable and ensure justice for all the affected.
