BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.23 percent to 3,371.92 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.17 percent lower at 10,843.23 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.68 trillion yuan ($234.8 billion), up from 1.48 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to computing power lease and brain-computer interface led the gains, while those in the energy metals and engineering machinery sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.58 percent to close at 2,191.27 points Wednesday.
